HORTON PARK POOL RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY ON SEPT. 8

LEE COUNTY, NC – August 30, 2023 – Lee County Government and Lee County Parks and Recreation are pleased to announce the reopening of Horton Park Pool on Friday, September 8, 2023.

The public is invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:15 p.m. that afternoon, with open swim to follow afterwards. The Lee County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved waiving the entry fees at Horton Pool in 2023 for the designated days the facility will be open to the public on September 8 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., and from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on September 9, 10, 16, and 17 before closing until next year.

This project completes the renovations at Horton Park, which began with a new accessible playground and equipment for children of all ages, park shelters, a revitalized baseball field, and the resurfacing of existing basketball courts.

Horton Park originally opened in 1955 with a baseball field and a park shelter. Since then, the pool and bathhouse, as well as basketball courts, additional shelters, and a playground have been added.

“This project has been highly anticipated by our residents and would not be possible without the support of the community and the Board of Commissioners,” Lee County Parks and Recreation Director Joseph Keel said. “We hope the community is pleased with the renovations at Horton Park and will enjoy it for years to come.”

This project was supported by federal funds through the American Rescue Plan Act allocated by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
