LEE COUNTY, NC – December 5, 2023 – Lee County Government and Parks and Recreation are excited to announce a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lee County Athletic Park is scheduled for Friday, December 8 at 10 a.m.

The public is invited to join County staff, elected officials, and key stakeholders break ground on the park.

This event is rain or shine, and attendees are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear, as the park is now an active construction site.

Participants may park at the Shallow Well Church, located at 1220 Broadway Road, Sanford, and staff will provide transportation to the groundbreaking site via passenger vans and UTVs.

Originally approved by voters via a bond referendum in November 2020, the upcoming Lee County Athletic Park will be a premiere sporting facility for not just Lee County residents, but for sports participants throughout central North Carolina. It will be highlighted by tournament quality ballfields, multi-purpose fields, a destination playground, walking trails, and more.
