BOARD OF ELECTIONS
PHOTO ID, SAME-DAY REGISTRATION, OUT-OF-PRECINCT VOTING, & PREREGISTRATION
On July 29, a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit struck down photo ID requirements and other elections procedures enacted under S.L. 2013-381 and amended by S.L. 2015-103. Barring any alternative outcome on appeal, the following are no longer enforceable:
- Photo ID requirement contained in Part 2 of Session Law 2013-381, as amended by Session Law 2015-103;
- Removal of preregistration contained in Part 12 of Session Law 2013-381;
- Elimination of same-day registration contained in Part 16 of Session Law 2013-381;
- Changes to early voting contained in Part 25 of Session Law 2013-381; and
- Elimination of out-of-precinct voting contained in Part 49 of Session Law 2013-381.

A General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. This General Election will include Federal, State and County races.
One-Stop Absentee Voting for this Election will begin on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Early Voting sites at the Lee County Board of Elections office at 225 S. Steele St , Sanford, NC and the McSwain Agricultural Center 2420 Tramway Road, Sanford, NC and will end on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.

Thursday 10/20 and Friday 10/21 - 9:00am to 6:00 pm
Monday, 10/24 through Friday, 10/28 - 9:00am to 6:00 pm
Saturday, 10/29 - 9:00am to 1:00 pm
Monday 10/31 through Friday 11/4 - 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Saturday 11/5 - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
The registration books will close on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 5:00 pm
Eligible individuals may register and vote during the one-stop early voting period. This "same-day registration" is the subject of ongoing litigation in federal court. Please check back to this website for updates.
Voters who appear on Election Day in the correct county but in the improper precinct may cast a provisional ballot that will be counted for all contests in which the voter was eligible to participate. This "out-of-precinct voting" option is the subject of ongoing litigation in federal court. Please check back to this website for updates.
All new registrations and party changes must be made by Friday October 14, 2016 at 5:00 p m. Name changes and address changes can be made at One Stop sites.
