OVERVIEW OF NCLIVE (www.nclive.org)

NC LIVE offers the citizens of North Carolina online access to a diverse collection of electronic resources including complete articles from over 16,000 newspapers, journals, magazines, and encyclopedias, indexing for over 25,000 periodical titles, and access to over 25,000 online print and audio books. NC LIVE is available free of charge to library patrons, students, and educators from four communities of interest (COIs) -- public libraries, community colleges, the state's university system, and members of the North Carolina Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. NC LIVE can be accessed from within an affiliated library or from your home.

1.  Universal access to core groups of reference and research materials online in the form of full-text electronic information and indexes.
2.  Unlimited access to digital versions of important historical documents and state government information.
3.  Information to assist users in gaining access to print materials available in libraries statewide.

NCLIVE FAQ

Can I access NC LIVE at home?
Yes, library patrons and students of participating academic institutions can connect to NC LIVE from home with their own computers via the Internet.

What do I need to have at home to connect to NC LIVE @ home?
A computer capable of accessing the Internet, a Web browser (like Internet Explorer or Netscape), and a connection to the Internet (dial-up, cable modem, DSL, etc.).
 
How do I connect to NC LIVE?
1.  Use your web browser to open the NC LIVE homepage at http://www.nclive.org/.
2.  When you see the remote login screen, select your library's name from the drop-down list.
3. Enter the entire barcode number on the back of your library card with no spaces.
 
How are NC LIVE resources different from what I can get when I search the Internet with an Internet search engine?
The majority of NC LIVE's resources are not accessible to the general Internet user. NC LIVE resources are more focused than what you can find with an Internet search engine, and includes the full-text of many commercially available magazines, journals, and newspapers.

Once I get my search results, can I get to these resources immediately, online?
You can read many items immediately, but not all. These are online, "full-text" materials, for the rest you will need to talk to your local library staff.
