GENERAL INFORMATION Lee County’s Convenience Centers are open to all rural county residents only. Residents of the City of Sanford or Town of Broadway are not authorized to use the centers. The centers are for residential users only. No commercial, industrial or institutional waste is accepted at the centers. Loitering and/or scavenging are prohibited. Acceptable Materials- Residential Household Garbage – Must be bagged
- Residential Trash – This includes furniture, mattresses and other bulky waste items.

- Used Motor Oil, Oil Filters, Crankcase Drainings, Hydraulic Fluids, Transmission Fluids, Diesel Fuel and Kerosene.
- Anti-freeze
- Appliances and Scrap Metal
Unacceptable Materials- Commercial, Industrial or Institutional Waste
- Construction & Demolition wastes
- Used Tires – Tires (5 or less) are accepted at the resource management facility.
- Yard Waste, Stumps, Logs or Brush – Yard waste and land clearing debris are accepted at the resource management facility
- Household Hazardous Waste
- Medical and/or Infectious Waste – Used hypodermic needles can be accepted with household garbage only if they are sealed in a hard plastic or metal container (laundry detergent bottle or coffee can).
- Sealed Tanks or Drums – All tanks or drums must have holes in them to insure that no liquids or gases remain. Drums must have the ends cut out.
- Propane Tanks – Contact Blossman Gas, Inc., 2221 S. Horner Blvd., 775-3013 or watch for our Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.
- Dead Animals – Dead animals can be taken to the Waste management Transfer Station located at 2720 Wilkins Drive.
Please note: Open burning of garbage and trash is illegal in the State of North Carolina. Violators of this law are subject to fines up to $10,000. Click here for more information regarding this law.
