Community policing is a strategy for using law enforcement officers, not just as people who react to crime, but also as people who solve problems by becoming an integral part of the neighborhoods they serve. Community policing activities increase contact between patrol officers and community members so that the officer develops an intimate knowledge of the day-to-day workings of the community and becomes a familiar figure to community members.
Patrol Deputies have been given community policing activity logs to plan and report two community policing activities each month. They can use elements of the community such as civic groups, community meetings, and schools as forums for community policing activities. They can also use their imagination to create a community activity in which a deputy comes in contact with 5 community members. (Five such contacts count as one community activity). Some examples of such contact programs include "Keep Check on The Elderly" and "Checking Back With Victims" and "Meet New Neighbors".
