NC PARTF Grant AwardedFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 5.22.06 Lee County has been selected to receive a grant from the N.C. Parks & Recreation Trust Fund (NC PARTF) in the amount of $500,000 to develop Phase II of Tramway Road Park. Tramway Road Park is the county’s new 26.5 acre multi-use park under construction adjacent to the new Southern Lee High School. The award was announced at the May 11th meeting of the NC PARTF Authority, an eleven-member board appointed jointly by the governor and the state legislature to oversee the grant program. There were 86 grant applications submitted from communities across the state requesting more than $27 million dollars for park land acquisition and development. Lee was one of 41 applications selected in this funding cycle. A total of $13.725 million dollars was awarded in this round and an additional $3.7 million is expected to be awarded among the remaining applicants when the Authority meets again in July. This is the second NC PARTF grant awarded for the Tramway Road Park project. Phase I of the project received $250,000 from NC PARTF. In addition to funding from NC PARTF, local contributions by Sanford Contractors, Inc and the Sanford Area Home Builders Association are valued at more than $348,000. Total estimated costs of the two phases of development for Tramway Road Park project is $1,731,600. Lee County’s portion of costs for the project are estimated to be $633,600. When fully developed, Tramway Road Park will have 4 lighted baseball/softball fields, soccer field, bleacher seating, dugouts, about 1.5 miles of trail, playground area, parking for more than 100 cars, and field house with concessions and restrooms. The high school and middle school will utilize the baseball/softball fields for their games.
