Youth Representative Seat

Purpose of the Initiative
To allow Lee County Youth Council and Young Commissioner 4-H Club members a positive way to engage with local government, providing input and insight to the Board of Commissioners on relevant youth issues from a young persons’ perspective.

Criteria for eligibility
The young person(s) serving as a Youth Representative to the Lee County Board of Commissioners MUST:
● Serve as an active member of the Lee County Youth Council for at least six months, OR have completed the Lee County Young
Commissioner 4-H Club 2-week summer leadership program and have been an active member of the Lee County Young Commissioners 4-H Club for the last three months
● Submit an application to serve as a youth representative to the Clerk to the Board with the application then reviewed and approved by the Lee County BOC

Structure of the Youth Board Representative Position
● The youth board representative will be a rotating position
● Members of the Lee County Young Commissioners and Youth Council will rotate representation at each regularly scheduled BOC meeting
● Each youth representative will be limited to serving at no more than four meetings during the calendar year 

Role of the Youth Board Representative at BOC Meetings
● The youth representative will be recognized at the beginning of each BOC meeting by the Chairperson
● The youth representative will be seated by the Clerk to the Board during the meetings
● The youth member may be called upon by any member of the Lee County BOC to provide input on youth related matters
● The youth representative will provide an update on what projects their Council/Club have been working on at the conclusion of the BOC meeting

Expectations of the Youth Board Representative
● The youth representative will be responsible for working with their club leader/advisor to stay current and informed on local community and youth-related issues
● The youth representative will review the BOC agenda before each meeting they are scheduled to attend
● The youth representative will find a qualified substitute in the event an emergency prevents his/her attendance
● The youth representative will conduct themselves in a professional manner during the meeting and abide by any 4-H and Youth Council standards of professional dress and behavior
● A parent/guardian or adult chaperone will be present at the meeting with the youth representative
● The youth representative will be responsible for providing a summary of the Lee County BOC meeting to the membership at their following Council/Club meeting
