LEE COUNTY GOVERNMENT RELEASES STATE OF THE COUNTY REPORT

LEE COUNTY, NC — October 6, 2022 — “Change” has been and will continue to be a theme in Lee County, particularly during the past few years with the COVID-19 pandemic, record setting business investment and an ever-growing population, resulting in the need for a State of the County (SOTC) report to update the public on what we have accomplished in our community.

Having not been produced in multiple years, a State of the County report was determined to be a meaningful way to encapsulate these investments and advancements in Lee County. Our main goal was to create an easily accessible and sharable report with a video component.

The SOTC report focuses on five main areas of development in Lee County — Economic Development; Healthy and Educated Citizens; Maintaining a Safe, Clean Community; Enhancing Community Resources; and Efficient Usage of Tax Dollars.

First, Economic Development continues to be a driving focus for Lee County and the Sanford Area Growth Alliance (SAGA) with record setting job investments occurring in 2021 alone. Second, the COVID-19 Pandemic has been a constant presence for well over two years, making community health one of the important topic areas covered in this report. In addition to health, education at all levels has been expanded to create healthy and educated citizens. Third, Community Safety has been a very newsworthy topic as well, with Lee County departments working to increase safety alongside accountability. Fourth, Lee County has prioritized the renovation and construction of county facilities to better provide services to all residents. Lastly, we wanted to highlight our many great employees working behind the scenes to ensure county funds are being used responsibly. Most notably, our finance department being awarded for excellence, now, 26 years in a row.

“Our Board of Commissioners proudly serve you the citizens of Lee County,” said Lee County Commission Chairman Kirk Smith. “We will continue to dedicate our mission of creating an effective, efficient, and responsible government providing the services necessary to truly make Lee County a place to Live, Learn, Work, and Play. Thank You for your commitment, resilience, and passion for Lee County.”
